News in 2000

The purpose of this page of the CDDIS web site is to post new items, activities, data sets, etc. of interest to the CDDIS user community. Users should also consult the list of upcoming meetings of interest to the space geodesy community.

New FAQ (30-Nov-00)

A new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list has been created and made available through the CDDIS web site. Users are encouraged to check this list for popular questions. Of course, questions not found there should be directed to the CDDIS manager.

CDDIS Web Site Gets Face-Lift (21-Nov-00)

A new version of the CDDIS web site has been installed. The new site no longer uses frames for navigation. Comments to the CDDIS manager on the new site are welcome.

Secure Access to CDDIS (15-Oct-00)

Users who access the CDDIS and transfer files to host cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov will soon be required to use secure shell (ssh) and secure copy (scp) instead of telnet and ftp respectively. This is a NASA and GSFC requirement to help ensure our computer and network security on center. In the near future, ftp access, with the exception of anonymous ftp of course, will be disabled on host cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov; telnet access has already been disabled. Questions should be directed to the CDDIS manager about using ssh and scp. The web site www.ssh.org also provides information on secure shell as do the UNIX man pages on sshd, ssh, scp, ssh-agent, ssh-add and ssh-keygen.

Recent Publications (15-May-2000)

  • "CDDIS ILRS 1999 Global Data Center Report" (PDF), in 1999 ILRS Annual Report
  • "IGS Data Center Report" (PDF), in 1999 IGS Annual Report
  • "CDDIS Global Data Center Report" (PDF), submitted to 1999 IGS Technical Reports
  • "DORIS Data Center at the CDDIS" (PDF paper/presentation), in DORIS Days 2000, Toulouse, France, May 2000

CDDIS Computer Facility Status (04-Jan-2000)

The CDDIS computer cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov continues to be unavailable to the user community. As of Tuesday afternoon, the new version of the UNIX operating system has been installed. The system administration staff is now updating the software. The web and ftp sites are up and operational but have not been updated with recent data. Unfortunately, there appears to be a problem with one of the disk controllers. Support has been contacted and we hope to have someone look into this problem on Wednesday. In the meantime we will attempt to update the ftp site.
