EGM96:
The NASA GSFC and
NIMA
Joint Geopotential Model
- Incorporate new 30' x 30' surface gravity into the geopotential model.
- Add normal equations from new satellite tracking data (GPS, TDRSS, SLR, Doppler) and from direct altimetry
( TOPEX/POSEIDON &
ERS-1 .
- Obtain satisfactory orbit performance, as measured by the RMS of fit.
- Obtain satisfactory orbit performance on TOPEX/POSEIDON, as measured by the RMS of fit, and comparisons with the JPL reduced dynamic orbits.
- Observe evidence in the improvement in the marine and continental geoid:
- GPS/leveling tests.
- SST comparisons with ocean circulation models.
- Derive a "reasonable" error spectrum.
